Dent Shoppe’s Car Care Tips

Here is a top 10 list for keeping up with your cars’ appearance

  1. Don’t wash your car with dish soap. It can dull the finish and also damage the paint.
  2. Don’t use abrasive cleaners on plastic or painted parts of your car.
  3. Don’t wash or wax your car in direct sunlight. Try to do it in the morning, evening or in a shady spot.
  4. Dry your car with a chamois, microfiber towel or soft terry towel.
  5. Don’t let bird droppings, insect, gasoline or tree sap sit on the finish long. Wash them off as soon as possible to avoid damage to the paint.
  6. Keep your car waxed. That will give you some protection against scratches and protect the shine longer.
  7. Don’t try to remove dents yourself. You will do more damage and increase the cost of a proper repair.
  8. Don’t hire a guy in a parking lot to fix your dent. Real dent guys do not solicit business that way. You will be sorry and pay a lot more to get the work redone.
  9. Do leave a note if you hit someone else’s car. It is the right thing to do.
  10. Check with the Dent Shoppe first, we may be able to fix it fast and very affordable.

Sandra and Gabe run a true family business. They offer a service called paintless dent removal. The technique allows technicians to remove dents and dings without the use of bondo or paint. Most dent removal jobs cost between $75 and $250 and take about an hour. Over the last few years they have expanded their offerings. Sandra added, “We provide expert paint and body work too. Our in house color matching system allows us to create the correct shade and just the right amount of paint for each job. That saves our customers money.” The Dent Shoppe team can remove dents, paint bumpers, repair curbed wheels, recondition foggy headlamps and fix windshield chips. “Customers love the one stop shop,” said Gabe. “That’s how we differentiate ourselves and add value.”

Preventing Scratches

Preventing Scratches

The logo of Dent Shoppe, Serving the Sacramento Area

  • Wash your car once a week. Dirt on the paint can easily lead to scratches.
  • Don’t slide objects across the paint. Even grocery bags can cause scratches.
  • If you wash a car by hand, don’t use an abrasive cloth such as one with synthetic fibers. We suggest a clean sponge or sheepskin mitt.
  • Hose off any dirt or grime before you begin washing, and frequently rinse the sponge or mitt in clean water. If it drops on the ground, don’t use it until it has been thoroughly cleaned.
  • Dry the paint with a clean chamois or terrycloth towels.
  • Wax using microfiber towels or soft all-cotton cloths, such as cloth diapers.

Paintless Dent Removal or Insurance Claim ?

Customers sometimes ask us if we work with insurance companies.  Paintless dent removal is fairly economical.   It is rare to turn in an insurance claim for our services.  Our work is usually less than the cost of your deductable.  A repair that a body shop would charge $1000 for, may be only $150 to $200 using the paintless method.  Most people carry a $500 to $1000 deductible for collision coverage.  The deductable is the portion that you pay before your insurance starts paying for the claim.  This means if you are bumped in a parking lot and the responsible party didn’t leave a note, you are stuck.  The insurance companies view this as a collision; therefore your collision deductible would need to be paid before your insurance kicks in.

According to our local insurance agent, most carriers will raise your premium (annual bill) by a minimum of 10 to 12% for 3 years if your claim is under $750 and there is no bodily injury.  This equates to 1 point on your driving record.  Insurance companies look at points as their risk to insure someone.  The more points on a driving record, the higher the risk.  The higher the risk, the more you pay for insurance.

It is every driver’s responsibility to leave a note if they bump into someone’s car or other property.  This is the law and not complying is a hit and run.  Most people are understanding and would prefer to have the damages repaired without making an insurance claim.  We can usually have the repair done in 2 hours or less and everyone is happy.

I have heard from several customers who contacted their insurance company to inquire about putting in a claim for this type of damage.  Many carriers are required to put a note in your record that you have damage to your vehicle.  They then want proof that the damage is repaired before you can put in any future claim that may be totally unrelated.

The Dent Shoppe recommends saving your insurance for the times when you really need to file a claim.  Stop by and see us first for small dents and dings.  We may save you lots of money and frustration.  We offer free estimates on a drop in basis.

PDR PRO Success

PDR PRO Success

Sandra and Steve Coleman have owned and managed the Dent Shoppe in Folsom, CA for six years. “We have been successfully using PDRPro for two years. The program is easy to use and customers love it. As the Dent Shoppe continued to grow, we added more employees. A multi-user system was needed and the program provided the solution. Now everyone is able to view the same quotes, notes and customer data. We get a lot of repeat business and can easily find a customer in our database,” says Steve Coleman. Tracking marketing information helps better target advertising dollars. Now money is spent on what works.

“Sometimes several technicians work on the same car. Their services have expanded to a long list of auto related products. A customer may have his bumper repaired, windows tinted and paint touched up in addition to dent work. We can see a breakdown of who did what with the commission amount for each person. This is great for payroll and reporting purposes,” Sandra says.

The bookkeeping aspect is not a favorite pastime for anyone at their shop. “PDRPro lets us streamline our operation. We use the information we gather from customers to help grow the business and be more profitable. All invoices from the shop import easily into QuickBooks, saving many hours of data entry.”

The next step was adding the mobile unit to their field operation. The hand held unit has a small printer and allows the field technician to upload his invoices to the PC at the shop. The field data synchs up to the office data for accuracy and backup. No more double entry of the same information or trying to read handwritten invoices. Sandra says, “This application is the answer to moving our business into the future.”
